The fabrication process is where the skill of an experienced CNC operator is essential. Solid surface materials have unique working characteristics, and expert handling ensures a flawless, durable finish. This stage combines artistry and precision technology to create countertops with exceptional fit and beauty.
1. Digital Templating & Slab Layout
The process begins with digital templating of cabinets to design the perfect countertop fit. Each slab is carefully inspected and photographed, and specialized software overlays the countertop templates to achieve the best alignment of vein patterns, texture, and color. This attention to detail ensures a seamless, visually stunning result.
2. Precision Cutting & CNC Fabrication
After the layout is finalized, slabs are cut using a saw jet—a high-tech combination of water jet and saw for smooth, accurate cuts. The material is then sent to a CNC machine for detailed fabrication. At this stage, custom cutouts for cooktops, sinks, faucets, or other design features are made. The CNC saw uses diamond polish pads to expertly shape and polish the stone edges, achieving a refined, professional finish.
3. Seam Grinding & Final Finishing
To ensure a flawless installation, seam edges are manually ground and polished for the tightest, most invisible joints possible. The result is a seamless countertop surface with superior strength and beauty.
4. Craftsmanship in Laminate Work
While the laminate shop doesn’t feature the same level of automation as the solid surface shop, it delivers exceptional results through the craftsmanship and skill of dedicated employee-owners. Each project is built with precision and pride to create a high-quality finished product.
In 2010, Mead Lumber opened its first countertop shop at the site of the original Mead Lumber facility, located in downtown Grand Island.
Today, GPC is one of the leading fabricators and installers in the Midwest. They have fabricated and installed over 45,000 square feet of solid surface countertops, and over 30,000 square feet of laminate countertops.
GPC supplies countertops to Mead Lumber retail branches and other cabinet retailers. They utilize state-of-the-art CNC equipment to fabricate stone countertops and currently have three workstations: The Fusion 4045 CNC Saw and two Titan 2700 CNC Saws/Routers.
